Is this a manmade product? How is this made?
No, it is natural stone that is quarried from rock bed formed millions of
years ago. All we do is bring out the natural beauty of the stone by
polishing the surface.
How many colors of granite
are there?
Hundreds of colors of granite are available. See our
Granite Colors
page for some examples of the many colors we offer.
Does granite have to be
sealed?
It is our policy to seal every stone
surface we install and we recommend the application of a sealer every year
to assure protection against any oils or water that may have sat on the
surface of the stone for any length of time.
How much does
granite weigh?
Granite
countertops weigh approximately 20 lbs./sq.ft., or approximately 300 lbs
for a standard countertop.

How long will it take to get
my countertops in my home?
For new constructions—after the cabinets are installed—we come to your home and measure,
and we will install the countertops in about two weeks. For remodeling jobs,
after we measure, it will be about three weeks before your countertops will be
installed. Most of the time the old countertops can stay in place until the
day before installation.
Are all granite kitchen counters a high
gloss finish?
No, there are several different finishes
you can order; the highly polished finish is just the most popular. We also
offer the Antique finish that will look and feel less polished. There is
also a process called “honing” that gives the stone a more matte finish yet
retains its smooth feel.
What’s the difference between a drop-in sink
and an undermount sink?
A drop-in sink sits on top of the cutout
in your granite counter while an undermount sink sits beneath the cutout.
There is generally an extra polishing charge required in preparing a granite
countertop for an undermount sink.
I’ve heard of “high movement” stone. What is
it?
Sometimes called “grain in the stone,”
“movement” is veins that swirl and change irregularly in granite due to the
massive forces at work on it beneath the surface of the earth during the
eons it took to form. “Movement” is also affected by trace amounts of other
minerals such as hornblende, magnetite, hematite, pyrite, zircon, garnet and
corundum. Many people find this flow of blending colors to be the most
attractive and compelling quality about granite.

Is granite really scratch and stain
resistant?
Yes. Even if you cut directly down upon
it in the coarse of normal, daily use, you will not mar the finish of your
granite countertop.
Granite is the
best material for kitchen countertop. Granite is not subject to stain
by acids such as vinegars ketchup etc. Granit is the best material for tables, bathroom
Jacuzzis, fireplaces, counter and vanity tops.
Is it true granite won’t chip, crack or
ding?
Unless you’re planning on wailing away
on your new granite counter top with a sledge hammer and chisel, we assure
you it will not chip, crack or ding under normal use. Besides, the
fabrication process is the most stressful on the stone, and if it doesn’t
break at that point, it never will under normal circumstances in your home.
What are those dark
stains on my counter?
Granite is a natural product and some
colors, even if very regular, may contain "birth marks".
Those darker cristallisations of 1 to 2 inches in diameter are not stains,
they are part of the stone. They are somewhat like wood knots. A
larger surface is more susceptible to include those birth marks.
Why is
granite an excellent material for kitchen countertops?
Once
polished, natural granite will maintain its high gloss virtually forever.
Normal use of kitchen knives, cutlery, and cookware leaves no scratches.
Heat and sunlight has no effect on natural granite, making it much safer than
synthetic surfaces with polyesters and resins. Pots and pans heated to 900
degrees Fahrenheit will not dull natural granite's lustrous finish.
How granite and marble are different from each other?
Both are
natural stones but granite is harder then marble. Granite is highly dense
material and highly durable. Granite composed deep inside the earth
and marble is formed from sediments. Marble is not recommended for
kitchen countertops.
Does all granite have the same hardness?
No, granite can vary in hardness. Granite is next to diamond in hardness.
Its hardness depends upon color. Some times it can also vary from the
different lot.
My granite kitchen counter top doesn’t look
exactly like my sample. Why?
Granite is an organic substance and just as no two people are exactly alike,
no two samples of granite will be either. The composition of minerals and
the deposit it was quarried from all play a part in the appearance of
granite.
